Rugged Science is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer, well rounded in the design and development of hardware and firmware for embedded computer systems and LCD Displays. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be the primary point of contact for electronic hardware selection, PCB design, electrical troubleshooting, and electrical test activities. Candidate must have expertise in MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-1399 electrical tests. Career knowledge and technical capability should cover the scope and ownership of product development including conceptual design, development of product requirements and architecture, implementing and testing the design in both hardware and firmware, and concluding with system test and evaluation. The candidate will be responsible for new product development and existing product improvement for use in military and/or industrial applications. The candidate will be expected to participate and potentially lead development projects of moderate to high complexity and to work in a highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Selection of electronic hardware for new product development and system integration.
• Responsible for design (generation of schematic, layout, and fabrication drawings), analysis, and testing of various types of custom PCB’s ranging from filter boards for EMI noise attenuation to audio and display processing boards.
• Technical expertise in power system design and analysis, system interface definition, specification generation, voltage drop & loss analysis, test procedure generation for insulation resistance/high potential (IR/Hi-Pot) testing, EMI/EMC testing, and manufacturing support.
• Provide electrical troubleshooting support to the engineering, production, and test teams.
• Generate documentation supporting the systems engineering life-cycle.
• Experience with software configuration management tools.
• Expertise with instrumentation & tools required for troubleshooting and testing embedded systems, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, etc.

Required Experience and Education Requirements

• B.S. Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required.
• 5+ years of experience in Military Electrical & Electronic Design.
• 5+ years of experience in PCB design (schematic, layout, fabrication drawings) including power filtering and audio and display signal processing using Autodesk EAGLE, KiCad, or equivalent.
• Expert in military electrical testing including MIL-STD-461 (EMI) and MIL-STD-1399 (Magnetic Field and Power).
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Experience and Requirements

• M.S. Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• Experience with x86 computer architecture
• Experience with network communication protocols and peripherals (TCP, UDP, CAN MODBUS, etc.)
• Experience with low level communication protocols and interfaces (USB, UART, SPI, I2C)
• Experience with Linux and MS Windows
